This year, RAMS 2011 will be held in Bristol at Wills Hall from the 14th to 16th of September. This event is being made possible thanks to generous support from Sigma Aldrich, the Royal Society of Chemistry Materials Chemistry Divisioni and the Institute of Physics Materials and Characterisation Group.

Our plenary speakers this year include:

• Professor Dame Athene Donald
• Professor Richard Winpenny
• Professor Andrew de Mello

We will also have a talk by Tim Radford, the former science editor of the Guardian on the role that early career scientists can play in communicating science to the media.
